Cleveland Lead Safe Certificate Lookup: Check Any Rental by Address or Parcel

For owners, managers, buyers, and tenants checking a Cleveland rental. The finder searches the City of Cleveland's public Lead-Safe Certificates and Property Insights datasets in your browser and shows the certificate status the City publishes. Nothing is sent to Guardian.

Cleveland Lead Safe Certificate lookup

Start with the certificate.

Enter the address the way an owner actually knows it, or the eight-digit parcel number. The finder shows whether the City lists an active Lead Safe Certificate, its status and expiration date, and the exact Accela record when the City provides one. Rental registration, occupancy approval, and building-violation status appear alongside it.

Use the street number and street name. Unit numbers are not needed.

Paste a single spreadsheet column, or separate properties with new lines, semicolons, or tabs. Commas remain part of an address.

Private from Guardian: your search goes directly from your browser to the City of Cleveland’s public-data service. Guardian does not receive or store your address list, parcel numbers, or results.

What this covers: Cleveland’s weekly Property Insights, Lead-Safe Certificates, rental registrations, and issued building violations data. Detailed record history generally begins in 2015.

What it does not prove: “No active certificate shown” is not a diagnosis of why a record is incomplete, and no result is not an official finding of compliance. Confirm important details in Accela or with Building & Housing.

Need the full City search or a different record type?

Open Accela’s Building & Housing search for permits, inspections, complaints, and other record types. Clear its default Start Date before searching.

Reading the result

What the certificate result means

The finder reports what the City publishes. It is not a City determination, and it does not replace the Accela record.

Active certificate shown

The City lists an active Lead Safe Certificate for the parcel. The result shows the status the City publishes and the expiration date. "Expiration approaching" means the certificate is still active but the date is near. Open the Accela link to see the City record itself.

Check a property

No active certificate shown

This is not a diagnosis and not an official finding. The datasets update weekly, a submission may still be in City review, or the City may hold the record under a different parcel number. Confirm in Accela or with Building & Housing before relying on it.

Open the Accela search

How long a certificate lasts

The City states that certification must be renewed every two years from initial certification unless a valid exemption applies. A 20-Year Lead-Safe Exemption follows a separate City pathway. Only the City of Cleveland issues the certificate or grants the exemption.

Book the right inspection

Most Cleveland rental owners need a standard Risk Assessment. Choose a different path only when the property’s history or completed work calls for it.

Choose an inspection type
Selected: Risk Assessment

The standard choice for most Cleveland rental owners seeking the two-year Lead-Safe Certificate pathway.

Guardian performs the inspection and prepares the associated report. The City independently reviews applications and decides whether to issue a certificate or exemption.

Cleveland Lead Safe Certificate lookup FAQ

How do I look up a Cleveland Lead Safe Certificate?

Enter the street address or eight-digit parcel number above. The City states that certification must be renewed every two years from initial certification unless a valid exemption applies. A 20-Year Lead-Safe Exemption follows a separate City pathway.

Who issues the Lead Safe Certificate?

Only the City of Cleveland issues the Lead Safe Certificate. Guardian performs the lead risk assessment (and clearance exam if remediation is needed) and provides the city-submission-ready report. The City of Cleveland issues the Lead-Safe Certificate once your application with our passing report is approved.

The lookup shows no active certificate. What does that mean?

“No active certificate shown” is not a diagnosis of why a record is incomplete, and no result is not an official finding of compliance. Confirm important details in Accela or with Building & Housing.

Can Guardian guarantee the City will approve my application?

No. Guardian can perform licensed lead services and prepare the related documentation. The City independently reviews each submission, may request corrections or more information, and decides whether to issue a certificate.

Can I check several properties at once?

Yes. Open Check multiple properties in the Property Record Finder and paste up to 25 Cleveland addresses or eight-digit parcel numbers. Duplicate properties are removed, unmatched entries are identified for review, and every matched property receives the same four-part status summary. The list and results go directly between your browser and the City’s public-data service; Guardian does not receive or store them.
